30th Atalanta’s
Victory Run

The 2011 Atalanta turned out well. There
were some excellent times and lots of happy participants. The weather was
actually pretty decent, at 60 degrees and overcast. I am particularly thankful
for all of our excellent volunteers. We have a great club and a great group of
people. James
Washington marked the course and handled the start/finish along with
Mike
Williams and Jack West. Yoshi Uemura,
Rich Vogt
and others set up the balloon arch, cones and flagging and collected tear
strips. Out on the road, it was Bob Burger, Louis Goldsmith, Len Davis,
Daniel
Huddleston, Greg Goldsmith, Rick Park and others keeping the traffic at bay. Skyler Wrigley
and Brett
Johnson directed runners and traffic at the 1 mile aid station,
while Matt
Nicholson and Paul Nicholson manned the lonely 2 ˝ mile
outpost and slicked up the course after the entrants dashed, crashed and
cartwheeled through. Registration and results were capably handled by Sherry Myers,
Alysha Simoni,
Sharon
Powers, Trent Brooks, Emily Simoni,
Marlene
Allen and Karen Brooks. Quick Results lived up to their
name this year! Mary
Meengs, Elena Pasquol
and their crew from Humboldt Breast Health Project met finishers
with flowers and ribbons. Gary and the Co-op crew kept us all well
supplied with refreshments. The Co-op does a phenomenal job handling many
aspects and many of the event expenses. Yoon Kim took those amazing photos and posted
the results before the finishers had even hit the showers. Bandemonium
entertained us and Barbara Edwards kept us informed about
everything from meter maids to top finishers. Peggy Brouillard
handed out awards and has been there right along making sure things get done right,
i.e., doing them herself. Thanks to the other volunteers and for all the things
I failed to mention. The race benefits the Humboldt Breast Health Project, Arcata High
Track and Cross Country and helps to fund other SRRC events and
activities, if there is anything left over. Thank you all, and have a good
