Gary Timek, and Marlene Allen – We thank all of our volunteers
who helped with this drizzly-day event! Luckily, Gary thought to bring
our big tent. It had a small issue with a missing bolt, but Yoshi
(Inspector Gadget) has it now and will repair it for us!
At 8:15 am, there were only 2
participants signed up … but in the next hour and 15 minutes we managed to
register another 140 participants with the help of Sherry, Bitsa, Amy, Sarah, Mark, and Marlene. Participants
did have to walk some ways to get to and from the start area, but it made for a
good warm up for everyone.
The race went off just a few
minutes late, where was James anyway? When the starting gun did go off, we had
some pretty fast times! Thanks to Yoshi and James
for measuring/marking the course, and to Reed for biking in front of the
pack. Dane and a crew of AHS runners were the parking and traffic
monitors. No one gets lost at this event. Timing was expertly checked and cross
checked by Gary, Yoshi, Don, and Mark. And, this year, the ever popular popsicles were back! (Donated by Marlene.)
James
is tireless at collecting donations of watermelons, yogurt coupons and other
gifts from local businesses for raffle prizes at the finish. This is a
fundraising event, so we try to keep the expenses to a minimum. It is also a
fee event -- club members included -- it has been since 1997, and the fees have
not increased since then. We collected $1,125 in fees for the AHS Track Fund. We
sincerely appreciate everyone who participated.
Thanks to Yoon, all the
photos and times were posted to the SRRC website practically before we were
cleaned up and out of the parking lot!
